Pokemon Black and White: Part 1

So I finally got a hand on Pokemon White, and decided to cover the game based on my journey.

Started the journey, picked Mijumaru as starter. Won both battles against Belle and Cheren. Went on the journey, got past the tutorials as usual.
Captured a Minezumi, which is intended to be a HM slave, and a Yoterii.
Arrived in Sanyou City, and got Boappu in Abandoned Lot of Dreams.
Continued on to the first gym battle in Sanyou City. Because Mijumaru was the one I picked, I faced off against Dento. A bit difficult if you are underleveled. The gym leader uses a Yoterii and a monkey which is weak to yours.

Old Abilities, New Effects

Some old abilities recieve new effects, such as:

Tier Changes to Expect

These are some tier changes to expect:

1. Blaziken has a high change of replacing Infernape as the OU fire/fighting starter because of the Speed Boost ability that it gained through the Dream World, as Infernape's biggest and only advantage when compared with Blaziken is its speed. Meanwhile Infernape itself only gain Iron Fist (powers up "Punch" moves) as the new ability.

2. Politoed and Ninetales going up in tier, most probably OU. The drought and drizzle is pretty good for a non-legendary pokemon. Expect combos such as drizzle Politoed + swift swim Kingdra to tear through the enemy team.

3. Poison Heal Gliscor to reign in OU for stall teams.

Pokemon Black and White: Turning the Metagame Upside Down

The release of Pokemon Black and White has brought Smogon to hard work once again. With these two games released they should rebalance the competitive metagame, as new pokemon and old ones with new abilities from the Dream World makes too much difference to the metagame. Although smogon, as of now, hasn't yet released the new tier system as they are still working on it, there are a lot of changes to be expected once it is released.

Update 04/09/2010: Starter Evolutions Revealed

Today serebii has confirmed that the images leaked on Wednesday is really the evolutions of the Black and White starters. I have to say, the design of Mijumaru's final evolution is pretty good when compared with the others.

OU Pokemon of the Week: Magnezone

Magnezone

Magnezone is a unique pokemon, due to it being OU and also have the ability Magnet Pull in order to trap Steel types. Combined with its huge special attack stat makes it a fearsome enemy to steel types, where steels usually have higher defense than special defense.

OU Pokemon of the Week: Gliscor

Gliscor

HP: 75
Atk: 95
Def: 125
SpA: 45
SpD: 75
Spe: 95

Gliscor is a very good pokemon both defensively and offensively. It has a very good attack stat and also a great defense stat. Its speed is also quite fast, which makes Gliscor a very good addition to the team. Its abilities are also quite good. Hyper Cutter in order to prevent Gliscor's attack stat from being lowered, while Sand Veil to increase evasion in sandstorm. Particularly good for a sandstorm team.

OU Pokemon of the Week: Jirachi

Jirachi

Spe: 100

Comment: Jirachi is a very versatile pokemon, with 100 in each stat, makes a very good offensive and defensive pokemon. Although, the most used combo that Jirachi is able to use is the para-flinch combo. Combined with substitute, makes Jirachi a very reliable sweeper. Another famous set is the wish set if a support pokemon is needed for your team.

Update 29/07/2010: Pokemon Black and White

A new update on Pokemon Black and White was revealed.

Minezumi's evolution, Miruhoggu, has been revealed. Another pokemon also revealed was a pokemon called Shikijika, shaped like a deer.

Some new moves have also been revealed, such as grass and fire oath.

The system reveal was Pokemon Musical and missions gained through High Link
